The El Sayed Foundation matches Silent Witnesses’s latest project in Gaza with Save the Children

July 2011

The El Sayed Foundation, through its matchmaking program, has successfully matched Silent Witnesses, an initiative of Al Madad Foundation, with Save the Children UK to support their development efforts in Gaza.

Three international photographers with the support of Save the Children entered Gaza. For nearly two weeks the photographers photographed children and their families; victims of the Israeli incursion on December 27th 2008. The resulting images are extraordinary, they tell of what happened and the damage done, physically and psychologically; but they also tell of a people - particularly the children - bright, intelligent and full of hope.

Included in the touring exhibition will be original pieces, inspired by the photographic images, by the renowned Iraqi artist Dia Azzawi. His images will provide a vivid and colourful contrast to the imposing monochrome images of Giuseppe Aquili, Anthony Dawton and Jim McFarlane.

The exhibition hopes to define the process by which art can bring understanding to seemingly intractable political conflict. Proceeds from the exhibition and print sales will go to Save the Children projects in Gaza, particularly its outstanding work with conflict-traumatised children.

The exhibition opened in Kuwait in March 2011 and can be seen next in Qatar in November 2011. Visit us soon for more updates.
